Platform Ranking Criteria

The following rubric outlines the criteria we look at when assessing the quality of investment platforms. Each of the seven key elements an investor should be aware of is scored using grades from "A" to "D," with a better grade signaling higher performance. Accessibility

• A: Has three of the three main attributes: non-accredited access, minimum invest below asset class average, access to a variety of investment options (curated portfolios and individual offerings)
• B: Has two of the three attributes: non-accredited access, minimum invest below asset class average, access to a variety of investment options (curated portfolios and individual offerings)‍
• C: Has one of the three attributes: non-accredited access, minimum invest below asset class average, access to a variety of investment options (curated portfolios and individual offerings)‍
• D: Has none of the three attributes: non-accredited access, minimum invest below asset class average, access to a variety of investment options (curated portfolios and individual offerings)

Quality of Offerings

• A: Strong vetting/selectivity of platform, historical options (that went on to successfully raise/exit) plus current options, prior returns, notable co-investors
• B: Above-average to moderate vetting/selectivity of platform, historical options (that went on to successfully raise/exit) plus current options, prior returns, notable co-investors
• C: Fair vetting/selectivity of platform, historical options (that went on to successfully raise/exit) plus current options, prior returns, notable co-investors
• D: Poor vetting/selectivity of platform, historical options (that went on to successfully raise/exit) plus current options, prior returns, notable co-investors

**Note: this assessment of platform strength is based on the A4A team’s collective expertise investing in and working within the private markets; more specifically, their collective knowledge spanning the entire alternative investment platform landscape**

Fees

• A: No fees charged to investor, platform employees derives revenue source from sponsors, businesses listing on the platform, or by investing in their own deals on balance sheet
• B: Low fixed percentage of total deal value with no annual recurring fee or fees significantly lower than others in asset class
• C: Average fees for asset class
• D: Higher than average fees for asset class

Liquidity and Cash Flow

• A: Has three of the three main attributes (auto-categorized based on time horizon): investment horizon of 0-3 years, robust secondary market available for exit, investment with strong annual cash flow and pre-defined termination date
• B: Has two of the three attributes (auto-categorized based on time horizon): investment horizon of 4-7 years, robust secondary market available for exit, investment with strong annual cash flow and pre-defined termination date
• C: Has one of the three attributes (auto-categorized for startups): investment horizon of  7-10 years, robust secondary market available for exit, investment with strong annual cash flow and pre-defined termination date. SAFEs count as a negative attribute because they do not accrue interest and lack a maturity date, adding uncertainty to this consideration‍
• D: Has none of the three attributes (auto-categorized for startups): investment horizon of 7-10 years, robust secondary market available for exit, investment with strong annual cash flow and pre-defined termination date. SAFEs count as a negative attribute because they do not accrue interest and lack a maturity date, adding uncertainty to this consideration

Quantity of Offerings (or Deal Flow)

• A: Strong inbound sourcing and consistent pipeline on new opportunities. More new offerings than others in asset class
• B: Above average to average number of new offerings compared to others in asset class
• C: Historically underwhelming or limited to a handful of opportunities
• D: Inactive, only 1-2 active opportunities, or new platform

Brand

• A: Has four of the four main attributes: Top VC backer, strong presence as thought leader, seen as top player in space, strong management team
• B: Has three of the four attributes: Top VC backer, strong presence as thought leader, seen as top player in space, strong management team
• C: Has two of the four attributes: Top VC backer, strong presence as thought leader, seen as top player in space, strong management team
• D: Has one or none of the four attributes: Top VC backer, strong presence as thought leader, seen as top player in space, strong management team

Risk and Diversification

• A: Has three of three main attributes: Asset class offers inherent downside protection, uncorrelated with public equities and/or macroeconomic health, aggregates offerings so as to mitigate the downside of individual investments, or has low investment minimums that enable self-imposed diversification
• B: Has two of three attributes: Asset class offers inherent downside protection, uncorrelated with public equities and/or macroeconomic health, aggregates offerings so as to mitigate the downside of individual investments, or has low investment minimums that enable self-imposed diversification
• C: Has one of three attributes: Asset class offers inherent downside protection, uncorrelated with public equities and/or macroeconomic health, aggregates offerings so as to mitigate the downside of individual investments, or has low investment minimums that enable self-imposed diversification
• D: Has none of three attributes: Asset class offers inherent downside protection, uncorrelated with public equities and/or macroeconomic health, aggregates offerings so as to mitigate the downside of individual investments, or has low investment minimums that enable self-imposed diversification
